Get Your Home Ready for the Season of Frost

With winter on its way, maybe you’re wondering how to get your home winterized! We realize this is a daunting task that you may want to avoid altogether, but luckily for you, we have carefully constructed the most essential steps.

1) Reverse Ceiling Fans

Run your ceiling fans on low in a clockwise direction so that when the heat rises, it recirculates and comes down to keep you nice and toasty!

2) Tune Up Heating System

Hire a technician to come and do a thorough inspection of your heating system. This way, you know your system is going to be in tip-top condition all winter.

3) Check Roof

Picture this; you’re sleeping in your comfy bed when all of a sudden, *drip-drop, drip-drop*, right on your forehead! No one wants a sudden leakage, so make sure you check your roof for damaged or missing shingles.

4) Remove Fuel from Lawn Mower

Not many people think of this one, but it’s very important to empty the fuel tank for the longevity of your machine. Leaving gas in your mower over the winter can ruin your carburetor and cause problems the next season when you’re trying to start it. Siphon the gas into a metal container of some kind, and then run your mower until it stops on its own.

5) Extend Downspout

It’s good for the foundation of your home to elongate your downspout, so that water lands a couple feet away from your home. Not doing this, may cause water to eventually trickle into your basement, and will give you problems over time.

These are simple steps that any homeowner can accomplish with ease. It is always better to be safe than sorry, we always say! Give these a try, so that you and your family are worry free, and can enjoy this holiday season with a peace of mind.
